We’re excited to welcome you to the CoLab team, Pat! Tell us a little about yourself.

I was born in the Yukon, but grew up in British Columbia. I spent most of my time in the mountains or forests—mountain biking, hiking, skiing, ATVing, or on some other device that allowed me to go fast over dirt, grass, rocks. When not outside I’d spend a lot of time cooking (and eating) with my family and friends, or looking for opportunities to travel.

On that note: feel free to send along recommendations for places where there’s good adventure or a tasty bite to eat.

How did you first get into Sales?

Well… between the ages of 3 and 5, my grandparents babysat me at their grocery store. And, probably to keep me out of trouble (or at least to stop me eating so many orange Tic Tacs), they taught me how to help customers and run a cash register in the bakery. While standing on a milk crate, of course. Cute, right?!

But, if that doesn’t count, I’d have to credit my time working at my local farmers’ market when I was 11. I earned a flat rate from each vendor I worked with—but I couldn’t leave for the day until the stall had sold out of everything. Now that’s motivation!

Why did you join CoLab and what are you most excited about?

Aside from the obvious reasons that it’s a great team with a people-first culture: in my last role, I spent almost all my time working with engineers and helping teams who push the boundaries of what humans can build. As I developed an appreciation for how much work goes into pushing that envelope, I also developed a passion for finding ways to help the teams working on solving these complex problems. Then I had the good fortune of chatting with someone from CoLab before I joined the team. Once they explained the problem CoLab is solving for engineers, it immediately clicked for me. And I wanted to be part of CoLab’s team, contributing to that important mission.

It only took a couple weeks on the team to be blown away, hearing firsthand what engineering teams had to deal with before CoLab—then hearing where teams who use CoLab are now! I’m excited to work with even more engineering teams making complex products, to give them the same results our current CoLab users are seeing.

If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?

A trampoline and a dog.
