We’re excited to welcome you to the CoLab team, Dewan! Tell us a little about yourself.
I'm a guy from Bangladesh who's passionate about everything related to tech! I moved to Newfoundland only a year and a half ago, so I'm still getting used to this thing called snow! ⛄️ I love travelling, have a passion for photography, and I'm a huge Friends fan who has almost every line in the show memorized!
How did you first get into software development?
I've always had interest in "computer stuff," but I wanted to follow in my older brother's footsteps so initially I got into a business program. Quickly, I realized it wasn't for me. By the time I was in college, I already had basic knowledge of programming so I decided to switch to computer science—and I haven’t looked back ever since! Although, like most other developers in the world, there are days when I feel like I was born to do this... and days when I'm like, "I have no idea what I'm doing!"
Why did you join CoLab and what are you most excited about?
Ever since I moved to NL and started looking at opportunities here, I was most interested in CoLab. Something about the company always drew me toward it. I'd heard great things about the work environment and, within my first week, I understood why! The people here at CoLab are amazing!
I failed on my first attempt at joining CoLab—for a work term as part of my Masters program—but I was so determined to be part of the team, it didn't not stop me from trying again a couple months later. And now, here I am!
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
A DSLR camera to shoot photos with, and my phone for music, games, reading, etc!
