Tell us a little about yourself, Emily!

I like to think I’m a jack of many trades (though I may be a master of none). I love to experiment and try new things, and enjoy the stories that come along with failures just as much as the victories. My latest project: crocheting. I’ll keep you posted. I studied commerce at MUN, and worked in startup development at Genesis for a year post graduation. I love telling stories, eating good food, and having fun… but then again, who doesn’t?!

How did you first get into sales development?

I actually took some introductory sales courses in university and had absolutely no interest. But working at Genesis I saw the passion and motivation behind entrepreneurship, and my perception of sales totally changed. It’s not about closing a deal, it’s about the value you bring to your customer. And being the person to introduce that value for the first time—that’s the fun!

Why did you first join CoLab and what are you most excited about?

Being involved in the startup ecosystem in St. John’s, I’d heard amazing things about CoLab. I knew the culture was amazing, the employees were passionate, and the product was one-of-a-kind. After chatting with a few employees, I knew I wanted to join the action! I’m excited to learn more, meet more changemakers in the industry, and to help CoLab grow.

If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?

I’m incredibly indecisive, so this one is tough… maybe an unlimited supply of yarn now that I’ve picked up crocheting (hook included). I think that counts as one? I’d also love to have my family cat, Nelly, for company and love.
