Meet The Team: Ehi Aigiomawu, Senior Developer
November 4, 2022
Tell us a little about yourself, Ehi!
I’m from Edo state, Nigeria, but I live in the United Kingdom. I tend to draw inspirations from the strangest of places. Growing up, I loved playing football and people thought I’d pursue it professionally. (Lol.) I also used to love drawing and painting as a child, but gave that up during my undergrad to focus on my computer science studies. These days, I spend my free time watching documentaries and learning about automotive designs. I think that may be the next thing for me outside software development.
How did you first get into software development?
I fell in love with computers at the age of 12. I was curious to find out why the computer could do so many amazing things that were impossible for the television. There and then, I decided I was going to find out why, and that led me to pursuing an undergraduate degree in computer science where I started to learn about programming. That came to a halt when my laptop was stolen. After graduation, during my one-year compulsory national service, I saved up 4 months of my monthly allowance, got a new laptop, and paid someone to teach me Java. At that time, I had this friend who had a laundry shop. I proposed building him a laundry management system. The knowledge I acquired from that helped me kickstart my journey into software development.
Why did you first join CoLab? What’s the most exciting thing about working here?
I applied to join CoLab because I thought the problem being solved was super important. I went through the interview and immediately loved the vibe from the folks I interviewed with. Every day, I have a reason to be grateful that I accepted the offer mostly because the energy and the culture here is great! CoLab is one of the few places you’ll find brilliant, young, and amazing people who aren't jerks. I love it here!
If you had to be shipwrecked on a deserted island, but all your human needs—such as food and water—were taken care of, what two items would you want to have with you?
Interesting question, ahaha! I’d definitely want to have a satellite phone and my husband. I’m making it out alive having those two. Ahaha!
