Can CoLab replace DFMPro?

For many teams, yes. It depends on what you rely on DFMPro for. CoLab can replace DFMPro if you mainly use DFMPro to catch common machining, sheet metal or injection molding issues. It’s an especially good fit if:

‍

  • Maintaining a rules library is taking more time than it’s worth.
  • Your design knowledge lives in documents, past reviews and the heads of senior engineers, not in programmed rules.
  • Your reviews involve drawings, manufacturing engineers or suppliers who don’t work in CAD.

‍

AutoReview checks your designs against the standards you already have, from day one. It also flags issues no rule covers, and your whole team and your suppliers can review and act on the findings together. Consider running both during a transition if:

‍

  • You’ve built up large DFMPro rule libraries for casting, welding, tubing or additive manufacturing.
  • Your team relies on DFMPro’s cost estimation or assembly-level analysis.
  • Your CAD team needs to run checks from inside CATIA or SolidWorks. CoLab already reviews CATIA and SolidWorks files today.

‍

CoLab is adding rule-based checks for more manufacturing processes, plus cost estimation and assembly-level analysis. If your team depends on these today, a gradual transition lets you move each piece over as CoLab covers it. DFMPro may be the better fit if you need on-prem deployment. CoLab is cloud-hosted and has FedRAMP High authorization for teams with strict security requirements. Not sure which applies to you? Run a side-by-side on your own parts. We’ll set up a pilot that compares CoLab and DFMPro on the designs and criteria that matter to your team.
